From HR Professional To Leadership Coach
I’ve always seen people as our biggest asset in business. As an HR professional I knew the importance of having a team that felt inspired and excited to go to work.
I knew that without high individual engagement and unwavering team effectiveness, I wouldn’t be able to reach the levels of leadership I dreamt of nor was my team able to reach their potential.
I also realized the irony of being a human resources professional and yet….
After what felt like years of trying to fix my problems on my own, I decided to get help.
I hired a leadership coach.
This was a pivotal move in my leadership career.
Options opened up to me that I hadn’t seen before…
- I had new ideas in how to engage and support my team members.
- I felt like I was in control again.
- I was excited about the future and full of energy.
My eyes were opened up to how much more there was available to me when I learned new ways to lead.Â
The connection with my team got better because I figured out how to connect with them in a meaningful way. It built a lot more trust and together we became a cohesive team that was moving in the same direction.

I was so changed by this experience that I decided to become a certified leadership coach to learn the process behind it all.Â

I’m passionate about this work because I see how it transforms not just my coachee but their team and the experience they have at work. When our work environment is positive and a place for us to thrive, it impacts our lives as a whole.Â

About Susan McGuire
Susan is an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and strategic consultant with a successful 25-year track record as a senior leader in some of Canada’s most successful organizations. She proudly serves on ICF Global’s Professional Coaches Board Nomination Committee and as Past President of the ICF Calgary Charter Chapter.
Specializing in her people-centric business solutions, Susan’s mission is to help you achieve extraordinary results, faster.
She has worked with leaders at all levels—from small startups to thriving medium-sized businesses to global corporations. Susan is honoured to volunteer as a Career and Business Coach with Up With Women, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping recently homeless and at-risk women build sustainable, prosperous careers and businesses. She is also proud to serve as Leadership Coaching Team Lead for GAIN by United Way where we help non-profit organizations increase capacity to meet the needs of the people they serve.
Susan enjoys a fulfilling personal life in Calgary with her family and friends. When not pursuing her passions through meaningful work, she can be found skiing in the winter and gardening in the summer.
